Abstracted

Frederick Borsch

Perhaps another word he might have meant,
distracted, or he could have writ absorbed
so by wheat field and the row of iris,
the Arles horizon almost gone in zooming
sun-lit gold and purpled flowers dying,
forgetting words and pain
while with his brush reaching for the pigments,
as I, too, have lost what else about me
might now be said other than standing here
abstracted by his world.
